DESCRIPTION:**FARM STAND GUIDE UPDATE: We’re getting REALLY close!**  \n\n\n\nWe’ve been doing a LOT of work behind the scenes on the new **Rural Northeast Wisconsin Farm Stand Guide**\, and it’s finally starting to look and work like the tool we imagined.  \n\n\n\nSo… where are we at? \n\n\n\n\n Real farm stand listings are LIVE\n\n\n\n You can filter by what you’re looking for\n\n\n\n Filter by products\, payment options\, days open\, farm experiences & more\n\n\n\n Each stand can share hours\, location information\, products and other helpful details\n\n\n\n “Get Directions” is working\n\n\n\n It works on desktop AND mobile\n\n\n\n\n We’re still tweaking\, testing and adding features as we find things that can work better \n\n\n\nAnd THIS is exactly why we launched with such a ridiculously low introductory price. \n\n\n\nWe need REAL farms and farm stands with REAL differences to help us find the things we never would have thought of while building it. \n\n\n\n Someone who primarily sells eggs \n\n\n\n A farm selling meat \n\n\n\n An orchard or larger produce stand \n\n\n\n Someone selling cottage-law foods\, canned goods or baked goods \n\n\n\n Dairy\, cheese or other farm products \n\n\n\n Honey or maple syrup \n\n\n\n A mobile farm stand \n\n\n\n An honor-system/unmanned stand \n\n\n\n WIC/Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program participating stands \n\n\n\n Regularly scheduled farmers markets or vendors \n\n\n\n**AND we need FARM EXPERIENCES!**  \n\n\n\nWe’re talking about places families can actually **GO and experience the farm**: \n\n\n\n Sunflower or flower fields \n\n\n\n Pumpkin patches \n\n\n\n Corn mazes \n\n\n\n U-Pick fruits or vegetables \n\n\n\n Animal encounters/petting farms \n\n\n\n Farm tours \n\n\n\n Orchards \n\n\n\n Seasonal photo opportunities \n\n\n\n…and whatever other unique farm adventures are hiding around rural Northeast Wisconsin! \n\n\n\n**Those are the listings we could REALLY use sooner rather than later.** \n\n\n\nEvery different kind of listing helps us test the guide BEFORE we call the infrastructure finished. \n\n\n\nAnd once we know it works? \n\n\n\n **The introductory price WILL go up.** \n\n\n\nThe current price doesn’t cover what we’re spending to build this. It exists because the farms joining us NOW are doing more than buying advertising—they’re helping us build and test something we hope will benefit local farms AND local families for years. \n\n\n\nAnd here’s the part I’m especially excited about…  \n\n\n\nThis isn’t going to be a random directory sitting by itself on the website. \n\n\n\nImagine you’re checking RuralNEWfamilies.com because the kids want something to do Saturday. \n\n\n\nYou find a festival\, fair\, park or other adventure… \n\n\n\nThen you discover there’s a sunflower field nearby.  \n\n\n\nAnd there’s a farm stand five minutes down the road where you can grab sweet corn\, eggs and fresh baked goods – Roadside Stands make the BEST Road Snacks for the way home.  (What’s your favorite “weird” road snack? \n\n\n\nTHAT is what we’re building. \n\n\n\n Local Family FUN \n\n\n\n Local Farm EXPERIENCES \n\n\n\n Local FOOD \n\n\n\nOne website helping families turn an ordinary Saturday into an entire rural adventure—while putting more visitors and dollars into the farms and small businesses that make our communities special.  \n\n\n\nWe’re not done yet. \n\n\n\nBut we’re close enough now that we need MORE farms\, stands and experiences to help us finish this right. \n\n\n\n Have a farm stand OR farm experience? Board our replica Concord stagecoach as you meet horses\, take photos with them and learn more about the picturesque world of the horse-powered past during your 30-minute ride.  \n\n\n\nOur handsome stagecoach can comfortably accommodate six passengers per tour\, though it may be possible to include more if needed—contact Wade House staff if your group has more than six individuals. Jung Carriage Museum.   𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Wade House Stagecoach Inn was constructed conveniently between the cities of Fond du Lac and Sheboygan\, along a well-used stagecoach trail. This made the 27-room Greek Revival hotel a popular resting point for weary travelers. Three generations of the Wade family resided on the Wade House property\, with the stagecoach inn operating until around 1872. The Kohler family and the Kohler Foundation purchased Wade House in 1950 and began a top-to-bottom restoration. The site became property of the Wisconsin Historical Society and opened to the public in 1953. Here\, visitors can journey back to the horse-powered world that existed before planes\, cars\, and trains. The site features the stagecoach hotel built and owned by Sylvanus and Betsey Wade\, early settlers of Greenbush\, as well as a blacksmith shop\, sawmill\, and the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum\, which houses Wisconsin’s largest collection of carriages and wagons. Visitors can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides from the visitor center to the historic core and back again. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗚𝗼 \n\n\n\n\n Pre-registration is recommended\, though rides will be offered on the day of the event as space allows.\n\nCheck-in location is the Wade House Visitor Center and Wesley W. The event is free and open to all. The idea grew out of last year’s House Walk\, which brought residents and visitors together for an afternoon that felt distinctly Rural: warm\, welcoming\, and full of old-world charm. A small committee of village residents\, with support from the Rural Historical Society\, set out to create something similar for Halloween: a safe\, gentle\, family-friendly celebration the community can call its own. But this won’t be a typical Halloween event. Rural is a historic village with a unique character\, and the celebration is meant to reflect that: rustic charm over flashy production\, hands-on activities over screens\, connection over convenience. Picture the streets full of costumed kids darting between porches\, local artists and craftspeople sharing their work\, live music drifting down Main Street\, and the whole village turned into one big gathering. “For years\, people have driven\, biked\, and walked through Rural to take in the village’s charm\,” said co-organizer John Turner. “For one afternoon\, we’re closing Main Street and handing it over to trick-or-treaters. Rural has always been a special place to pass through. This time\, we’re inviting everyone to stay awhile.” Visitors can expect live music from local band Boogie Sauce\, along with storytelling\, poetry\, games\, hayrides\, vintage tractors\, local food and baked goods\, and vendors. A costume parade will be led by the local children’s librarian\, and of course there will be trick-or-treating throughout the village. Guests can also visit Rural’s Weller Studio for a milestone of its own: the first official art show ever held in the village. The show features six well-known local artists: Davette Leonard\, Terry Achten\, Tammie Jo Berg\, Dorothy “Dort” Dewild\, Bev Crane\, and Cindy Kelm. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume. Kids are urged to bring their parents\, and parents are urged to bring their friends. To make room for it all\, Main Street will be closed. Parking is available at the Crystal River Inn and Cottages on Rural Road\, just off Highway 22\, and off Barlow Street/Rural Road. Volunteers will be on hand to direct parking and guide guests to the festivities. The hope is simple: to celebrate the charming\, historic character of the village\, give residents and visitors a joyful afternoon together\, and\, if all goes well\, start an annual Rural tradition. WHAT’S HAPPENING Trick-or-treating throughout the village Costume parade led by Simon\, the Waupaca children’s librarian\, who is also hosting monster mask crafts Pet costume contest hosted by Ava’s Golden Paw. All animals welcome! Live music from Boogie Sauce and Da Ukers\, the Arts Hub ukulele group Stories and poetry in the historic Town Hall\, with author Jaqueline De Isles reading her new children’s book and poets Cindy Kelm and Steve Chapman. The Rural Historical Society will be set up there too\, so stop in and say hello. Hayrides and vintage tractors (and maybe a horse wandering by!) Face painting Free live screenprinting by Ben Achten. Bring a t-shirt\, kitchen towel\, or anything you’d like printed with a Rural Halloween design! \n\n\n\n PET COSTUME CONTESTBring your costumed critter to Ava’s Golden Paw booth area by the old Town Hall\, and they’ll snap a Polaroid for your entry. Dogs\, cats\, reptiles\, fish\, birds\, whatever you’ve got! Winners get a prize. Couples costume with your pet? Bonus points and an extra entry! Have a shy or anxious animal at home? Bring your own Polaroid of them and they can still enter. (It has to be a Polaroid!) It’s a lively\, family-friendly crowd\, so please only bring pets who will enjoy it. Dogs on leashes\, please\, and small critters in carriers or backpacks. Entries 3:00-5:30 · Voting 5:30 · Winners announced 5:45 \n\n\n\nEAT\, SHOP & REST Pulled pork sandwiches\, hot dogs\, pudgie pies\, and hot cocoa from Waupaca’s Marty Diefenthaler. All profit supports the veterans at the Veterans Home in King. Baked goods from Two Generations Bakery Local makers: Rose In The Garden\, Chain O Lakes Creations\, and Taylor’d Trinkets\, plus goodies from Shirley’s thrift store Mema D’s Nest Tent\, with the Central Wisconsin Doula Collective: a cozy spot for parents to rest\, feed\, and change babies\, with rockers\, toys\, and coloring sheets.
