Board our replica Concord stagecoach as you meet horses\, take photos with them and learn more about the picturesque world of the horse-powered past during your 30-minute ride.  \n\n\n\nOur handsome stagecoach can comfortably accommodate six passengers per tour\, though it may be possible to include more if needed—contact Wade House staff if your group has more than six individuals. Jung Carriage Museum.   𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Wade House Stagecoach Inn was constructed conveniently between the cities of Fond du Lac and Sheboygan\, along a well-used stagecoach trail. This made the 27-room Greek Revival hotel a popular resting point for weary travelers. Three generations of the Wade family resided on the Wade House property\, with the stagecoach inn operating until around 1872. The Kohler family and the Kohler Foundation purchased Wade House in 1950 and began a top-to-bottom restoration. The site became property of the Wisconsin Historical Society and opened to the public in 1953. Here\, visitors can journey back to the horse-powered world that existed before planes\, cars\, and trains. The site features the stagecoach hotel built and owned by Sylvanus and Betsey Wade\, early settlers of Greenbush\, as well as a blacksmith shop\, sawmill\, and the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum\, which houses Wisconsin’s largest collection of carriages and wagons. Visitors can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides from the visitor center to the historic core and back again. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗚𝗼 \n\n\n\n\n Pre-registration is recommended\, though rides will be offered on the day of the event as space allows.\n\nCheck-in location is the Wade House Visitor Center and Wesley W. SUMMARY:A Visit With Margaret Ashmun
DESCRIPTION:The Waupaca Historical Society will welcome Dr. Connie Haack-Hurlbut for “A Visit with Margaret Ashmun” on Thursday\, September 17\, at 6 p.m. at the Holly History & Genealogy Center at 321 S. Main Street\, Waupaca. \n\n\n\n Born in Rural in 1875\, Margaret Ashmun went on to become an educator\, author\, editor\, artist\, traveler\, and biographer. Her sizeable body of work explored subjects that remain surprisingly relevant today\, including women’s education and independence\, adoption and the hopes for caring homes\, the effects of domestic violence\, the horrors of war and the need to find joy in everyday life. Even today\, Ashmun’s books and writings continue to attract readers and researchers.  \n\n\n\nHaack-Hurlbut’s journey into Ashmun’s life began with a chance question she heard on a Wisconsin Public Radio call-in program and grew into decades of “detective work” that took her from Waupaca and the Chain O’Lakes to libraries and archives in Wisconsin\, Washington\, D.C.\, New York City\, and locations connected to Ashmun’s life in Connecticut and Massachusetts. \n\n\n\n A retired college educator and longtime community volunteer\, Haack-Hurlbut was selected Wisconsin Teacher of the Year\, then chosen Midwest Teacher of the Year and became one of four finalists for the AVA/ACTE National Teacher of the Year. She was also featured in the American Association of University Women’s book\, “Dreamers and Doers of Northeast Wisconsin\, Vol 1.” Like Ashmun\, Haack-Hurlbut credits her own formative years in Waupaca’s Girl Scouts\, Job’s Daughters\, and local restaurant work for shaping her lifelong commitment to education and service.  \n\n\n\nThis program is free and open to the public\, and all are welcome to attend.
