SUMMARY:Sturgeon Spawning 2026
DESCRIPTION:Due to the dangerous flooding conditions in Shiocton and New London\, spawning activity is unable to be monitored this year.  Sturgeon can be seen spawning at the Shawano Dam\, but due to flooding and high water\, please stay on the upper deck and observe warning signs.Please see this update from Shawano Park and RecDePere Dam – Lower Fox River – Sturgeon have been observed in shallow water along the shoreline near the wildlife viewing platform.  Poor water clarity makes viewing difficult and no spawning activity has been reported yet. \n\n\n\nPestigo Dam- Pestigo River – Some sturgeon have been seen in the lower Pestigo River\, but high flows are not ideal for viewing. \n\n\n\nTo view the Sturgeon Online- Check out the Shawano Sturgeon Cam (The Wolf River Cam in New London and Shiocton is currently offline due to the flooding).You can view updates on the DNR Website

DESCRIPTION:Due to the dangerous flooding conditions in Shiocton and New London\, spawning activity is unable to be monitored this year.  Sturgeon can be seen spawning at the Shawano Dam\, but due to flooding and high water\, please stay on the upper deck and observe warning signs.Please see this update from Shawano Park and RecDePere Dam – Lower Fox River – Sturgeon have been observed in shallow water along the shoreline near the wildlife viewing platform.  Poor water clarity makes viewing difficult and no spawning activity has been reported yet. \n\n\n\nPestigo Dam- Pestigo River – Some sturgeon have been seen in the lower Pestigo River\, but high flows are not ideal for viewing. \n\n\n\nTo view the Sturgeon Online- Check out the Shawano Sturgeon Cam (The Wolf River Cam in New London and Shiocton is currently offline due to the flooding).You can view updates on the DNR Website

We Can HelpJ&R Aquatic Animal Rescue is proud to host an Exotic Pet Surrender Event on April 25th from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Shawano County Library located at 128 S Sawyer St\, Shawano\, WI 54166.In many regions\, rehoming options for exotic pets such as fish\, birds\, and reptiles are limited. Unfortunately\, some pet owners\, feeling they have no alternative\, may consider releasing their animals into the wild. However\, doing so poses serious risks to both the animal and the environment. This event offers a responsible and ethical solution.This event provides a safe\, judgment-free opportunity for individuals to surrender exotic pets they can no longer care for.Local organizations will be on-site to accept fish\, invertebrates\, reptiles\, pet birds\, small mammals\, and plants—no questions asked. In addition to surrender services\, attendees will have the opportunity to meet animal ambassadors and learn about responsible pet ownership and invasive species.J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) is hosting this event in partnership with Shawano County Library\, Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano Counties\, Inc. (WAMSCO)\, and the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes.Important Information:– Adoption Availability: Surrendered animals will be placed for adoption following a mandatory quarantine and observation period. Same-day adoptions will not be available.– Accepted Species: We welcome exotic pets\, including fish\, invertebrates\, reptiles\, pet birds\, small mammals\, and plants.– Non-Accepted Animals: Domestic pets and farm animals—including but not limited to dogs\, cats\, rats\, mice\, rabbits\, guinea pigs\, goats\, horses\, pigs\, and chickens—will not be accepted. DESCRIPTION:Come on out and visit Doc’s Zoo!  Alligators get fed every Saturday at 11am (sharp).  You’ll want to get there early enough to park and find your spot.  Leave enough time to wander around the zoo and see ALL the amazing animals.  If you run early – check out Doc’s Amazing Breakfast at Doc’s Timeline Saloon served from 7-11. \n\n\n\nBe sure to visit the indoor and outdoor animals.  If you have older kids\, be sure to check out Doc’s Museum as well.
