I am a mom of three kids ages 12 to 25. I are excited to help busy families connect to fun, food, experiences, businesses, farms, organizations, and communities across rural Northeast Wisconsin.
My husband and I moved our family to Deer Creek in 2015 from the Fox Valley. There was an adjustment period as we figured out how to find local activities. (My kids were 13, 4, and 15 months when we moved here). There was a lot of “Oh Man! We missed it; the kids would have loved that!”
A couple of years later, I discovered Macaroni KID and launched the Macaroni KID Clintonville edition in November 2017. In April 2023, Macaroni KID and I went our separate ways. Our name has changed, but our mission has never wavered.
I love supporting our local organizations, shops, and stores. I’m one of those people who needs my phone calendar, a paper calendar, and several reminder notifications. We live in a special area with several “well-kept secrets,” so if you have any suggestions of places I should check out, please let me know.
You’ll frequently find us strolling on the Main Streets (or the equivalent) in town. We like to grab meals from local restaurants when we can. My family can frequently be spotted “in the wild” at many of the events that you see on the calendar.
Rural Northeast Wisconsin Families is a small, local, woman-owned, veteran-supported business created with families like ours in mind—people trying to find the events, local businesses, services, and experiences available around them. We believe useful community information should be easily accessible.
Rural is always under construction.
And that’s a good thing.
Rural Northeast Wisconsin Families grows and changes based on what we discover our communities actually need. Sometimes that means building something new. Sometimes it means taking something offline and rebuilding it better.
The Farm Stand Guide is growing. The Business Directory and Restaurant Guide are being reworked. And we’re continuing to find better ways to connect local families, businesses, organizations and experiences.
So if Rural looks a little different the next time you visit, don’t worry. You aren’t lost.
We’re doing the work so you can focus on the fun.
We also believe that we are stronger together and many hands make light work. When everyone has a hand in something amazing, they help the community rise.
That’s why Rural isn’t about one business, one town, one event, or even one definition of family. It’s about building connections across our rural communities — because when we help each other grow, our villages rise together.
That’s why we built a village-supported model. Businesses, sponsors, supporters, affiliate partners, referrals, submissions, shares, and even the occasional few dollars all play a part.
Nobody has to do everything. But when a lot of us do a little, Rural can keep doing the work that helps connect all of us.
