What is Rural Northeast Wisconsin Families (AKA: Rural or RuralNEWfamilies)?

In the shortest summary possible– we are a locally, women-owned, veteran-supported small business located in Rural Northeast Wisconsin, created to make it super easy for families to find and support local businesses and events. You can find a LOT more information about how we started in our About Us section

What Communities Does RuralNEWfamilies serve?

Very long list shortened, we serve any rural community within approximately a 90-minute drive from Bear Creek, Wisconsin. There are exceptions for those events that are “can’t miss” or “worth the drive”.

An actual list of communities can be found on our About Us page, but it is not exhaustive.

How do you find all these events or can I just find them myself?

I’ve been doing this in one capacity or another for almost 10 years. Over that time, I’ve built an incredible network of businesses and organizations that host events throughout northeast Wisconsin. I also invite organizers to submit their events directly to me using our Event Submission Form. I do NOT ever poach from Facebook groups or use scraper software. If you want your event considered for our calendar, please use our Event Submission Form.

Can you find all these events yourself? Absolutely!

You could try to find them all, but I spend about 40-50 hours a week on event entry alone. I really do the work so you don’t have to. I’d rather your family focus on fun things to do.

Do you use AI?

Short answer is, I do. The vast majority of images you see, I have created using different software – like Canva or WordSwag. A while back, Canva told me I’d created more than 750 images. There are times when using AI is a better use of my time or resources. As I said, I spend about 40-50 hours a week just on events. I still need to do the social posts, write articles, and other business-related items. I’m also the person behind the 3rd-party meeting recordings in Clintonville. Sometimes it just makes more sense to allow AI to generate a quick image while I continue entering events. By the time AI finishes creating that image, I can have another 5 events entered into the calendar.

As for the artwork, I use AI-generated images sparingly. My teenage daughter is an artist, and we’ve come up with a fun idea to showcase her talent. When we’re ready to unveil it, I hope you’ll support her work, too!

My son once asked me why I don’t use AI more on the backend so it’s not public-facing– valid question! — It’s because the event entry requires the human touch. It’s not something I’m willing to risk. I don’t want your family getting lost or missing an important detail. We’ve all had the GPS try to lead us to a field or a dead-end road.

You record meetings for Clintonville. Does that make Rural a Political Site?

Nope! Not at all.

RuralNEWfamilies is an information resource. My goal is to make information that families and community members need easier to find.

That includes local government and school board information!

When available, I share meeting agendas and packets before meetings, along with recordings when my schedule allows.

I’ve also organized my YouTube channel into playlists to make everything easier to find. You’ll find separate playlists for City of Clintonville meetings and School Board meetings, while the main channel features videos about Rural and other community-related content.

The goal is to make information accessible so you can stay informed and draw your own conclusions.

A note about public meeting notices: RuralNEWfamilies is not an official source for public meeting notices under Wisconsin’s Open Meetings Law.

Have a question?

Text messages and social media messaging are generally the best ways to reach me. The phone number in my About Us is a texting phone number.

My kids attend virtual school, so phone calls can be difficult during the school day. Calls can interrupt their learning, especially when they need to use their microphones.

I also work overnight quite a bit and have a seasonal part-time job, so texting and messaging allow me to respond when I’m available.

Need to meet in person? I can schedule appointments, too!
