There was a discussion recently regarding buzzwords. Family-friendly definitely falls into that category. One way to suss out those buzzwords is to ask, “What does it mean to you?” When I use family-friendly, I recognize that everyone’s families look a little different. I think the best quote to help with this is from Walter/Jeff Dunham: “Is it family-friendly?” “Well, it depends on your family.” If you see it on my website/calendar, it means that either the host told me it fit their definition, or it’s because it’s an event my own family would be comfortable attending.
So, let’s get on with our family-friendly Summer Fun, shall we?
With Mother Nature bringing the HEAT this weekend, let’s start with our local swimming holes:
Swimming Events/Times, rules, etc – this category will be best viewed in Month-view. Clintonville and Weyauwega are only in here once for their opening days. Follow Clintonville Park and Rec for Pool Updates (currently closed as of 6/21 until E. Coli Test comes back)
Free Swim Sites:
Important to Note: These sites are unmanned, swim-at-your-own-risk. Some of them have steep drop-offs that aren’t marked.
- Black Creek – Black Creek Lake Park – Details
- Marion Lions Park Pond – there is a steep drop-off just past the end of the slide. There is also a boat launch nearby. Be aware of surroundings, as fisherman also use the water.
- Shiocton – Shiocton Lake Park –
- Shawano – Smalley Park (Lake) and Memorial Park, Franklin Park, The Naberhood (Splash Pads)
- Seymour – Splash Pad,
- Manawa – Splash Pad
- Bonduel – Cedar Park
We have filled the Event Calendar with FUN family events! These are just a few of my top picks. Click here to view the full calendar! Remember to check and refresh often, we add events all the time! We have 5 calendar views, so you can choose the best format for you!
There are so many June Dairy Month Activities and Breakfast on the Farms to choose from – we have a category for them!
We are also very lucky to have several incredible libraries and local museums that have amazing programming for kids of all ages. They also have their own category!
We have added a brand new category for the summer. We know that the kids’ “school” stomach is significantly smaller than their “after school” stomach, and that’s still smaller than their “summer” stomach. We also know it can get expensive to keep up. There are several opportunities for kids to eat for free.
- Free Summer Meals for Kids
- Community Meals – Open To ALL
- Restaurant Guide – Includes coupons and a Kids Eat Free Section, coming soon.
If I’m missing anything in those, please let me know. We’d love to keep them as updated as possible. We are always looking to add more restaurants to the guide.
Strawberry Picking Season and Farmers Markets have also started up for the Season! Blueberries and Raspberries aren’t far behind!! You can find those here:
And Everyone’s Favorite Category:
FREE – Events in this category may overlap with some of the other categories.
Check the calendar often, as much as I’d like to have the calendar completely done for the following week, that just hasn’t been possible. If you’re hosting an event, we’d really appreciate it if you’d use the Submit an Event option.
Coaches: If your team is having a BIG game or Tournament, let us know! A lot of community members like to support our young athletes, even if they don’t have kids on the team anymore. We need your help! If you’re proud of your team, we want to help you cheer them on!! 🤗🎉

Since we aim to never hear “Oh No! We missed it!” That means not missing RSVP deadlines, too! So, check out our Plan Ahead category for events that require tickets or other RSVPs.
Whether we know where we’re going or we’re winging it, these are never far.
Road Trip Essentials
We need fuel for ourselves, and if your family is like mine, we’re the keepers of water and chargers. It doesn’t matter if the road trip is 20 minutes long, someone will ask me for a charger or water.
**I may earn a small commission on eligible purchases using the links below and on the photos. We thank you in advance for your support**

If you’d like to see some of our other affiliate partners, we have them organized for you. Mabel’s Labels just dropped new options for their Water Bottle Bands.
As you know, we are a FREE resource for many. It is most definitely NOT free to run. We are also a VERY small business. We appreciate all of the support!

We have our Business Facebook page that we sometimes post last-minute events.
Here are a couple of ICYMI posts:
Epi-Pen Classes
A Perfect Example of Businesses helping each other
Neighborhood Dairy Distribution
Tips for Joining Groups
Tick/Lyme Disease Awareness- Public Health Vending Machines
We also have 3 FB groups:
- Rural NEW Families Events – A few businesses post their events in this group. If you have questions, it’s a great place to contact the hosts. Get the info straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.
- Clintonville Area Let’s Talk About It – this is just a place to chat or ask questions.
- Rural NEW Families Alternative School Outings – Many families are choosing alternative education for their children. It can be tough for the kids to make new friends or to take advantage of the other educational opportunities available. Virtual Public School students fall into this weird middle ground. A lot of “homeschool” groups don’t allow virtual students. This group is for everyone.
When we started finding family-friendly activities 8 years ago, we stayed far away from politics. Politics are not family-friendly or fun, but they do affect every one of us. I have a category for those town and school board meetings. I’m not on every list to get every meeting for every community, so if there’s a meeting that people need to know about, send me the info.
Before my last attempt at a school board seat, I decided my name would never appear on another ballot. After the spring election, I needed to choose the best use of my old school board candidate page. So, it’s a political discussion page now. It can also publicly live-stream meetings or events when needed.
Volunteer Opportunities
I know there are people that like to know when there are volunteer opportunities available. This is just a basic list. I’ll get more details for you soon.
- Manawa Rodeo
- St Rose/St Mary’s Fireworks Food Stand
- Clinton Farms – Farm Technology Days

Homemade Simple Electrolyte Drink
