It’s Macadamia Nut Day!

And before you start picturing Hawaiian beaches and macadamia nuts covered in chocolate…

🌴 SURPRISE! They’re actually native to AUSTRALIA! 🇦🇺

Indigenous Australians knew and ate native macadamias long before Europeans documented them. Macadamia trees were later brought to Hawaii, where commercial production helped turn the nut into the famous Hawaiian treat many of us recognize today.

🥜 AND THESE LITTLE THINGS ARE TOUGH.

Macadamia nuts have an extremely hard shell.

As in…

“Maybe don’t hand the kids the regular kitchen nutcracker and tell them to have at it” hard. 😂

Fortunately, the grocery store has already handled that problem for us.

🍪 SO HOW DO WE CELEBRATE?

Obviously, eating them is a solid start.

Try:

🍪 White chocolate macadamia nut cookies
🍫 Chocolate-covered macadamias
🥞 Add chopped macadamias to pancakes
🥗 Sprinkle them over a salad
🍨 Add them to ice cream
🍌 Mix them into banana bread or muffins
🥜 Or just eat a handful!

White chocolate + macadamia nuts? Classic.

Milk chocolate + macadamia?

Dark chocolate?

Then give your creation a ridiculous name. 😂
