Sunday, August 30 is National Slinky Day!

Well… yesterday we ate Chop Suey.

Today we’re apparently throwing toys down the stairs. 😂

Happy National Slinky Day!

And this is one of those toys with a GREAT accidental beginning.

🌀 The Slinky wasn’t originally supposed to be a toy!

Back in the 1940s, naval engineer Richard James was working with tension springs when one fell and basically walked its way across a surface instead of simply falling over.

💡 Wait a minute…

His wife, Betty James, helped turn that happy accident into the toy generations of kids have played with — and she came up with the name Slinky after searching for a word that described its smooth, graceful movement.

And more than 80 years later…

We’re still standing at the top of the stairs saying:

“Okay… THIS time it’s going all the way down.” 😂
